Becoming Successful Similar to . . . Tony Robins . . . Brian Tracy . . .

Do you realize that THE WORLD wants to limit you, to determine your vision of who you want to be?

Some time ago I decided that my vision of what I do with everyone I touch is based on two things.

“Find enough people to help them get what they want and you’ll have everything you ever wanted out of your life”

And

That I want to help everyone I touch to reach new levels of success that they couldn’t even have imagined before we met. And I’ll do that for everyone I touch even for 10 minutes or less.

But the next thing that happened was that I ran into just about as many telling me “that’s b.s. to reach that far” as those who actually wanted the results I was holding out to them as a carrot.

You see, the whole world has beliefs about what is realistic, and those who have never reached anything like those big results I hold out as a carrot, so having not experienced it they’ll call it b.s.

It’s important for you, as a coach or consultant, to have a clear vision for the outcomes you want to deliver. Otherwise you could fall back into the visions of the unsuccessful instead of the vision you have.

I’ve heard lots of coaches say that they don’t want to hold big results out there in their marketing because it’ll cause their prospects to not believe them. So they downsize their offerings in order to reach those that don’t believe the bigger numbers are possible. Isn’t that allowing the unsuccessful to tell you what your offerings should be? And worse, when you make small offers no one that actually buys will buy that low of an offer.

Instead of allowing the unsuccessful to tell you what’s normal, it’s time for you to define who you really are, what you really deliver to clients and how big, how much, how fast. And watch three things happen.

  • You’ll get lots more clients than ever before (these will be successful people wanting even more success, and they also have the money to pay you).
  • You’ll also get lots of hecklers that tell you that’s not possible. But these wouldn’t have bought from you anyway.
  • And, finally, you will become the coach who you’d like to become, that is one of the big successful ones delivering those huge results that people are begging for.

Sometimes people will doubt your results even after seeing them. I once was hired by the world’s 7th largest freight insurance company who wanted to get more clients after 9-11 pretty much devastated the shipping world. At the time they were getting about one new client a month. So they asked me to help them get just one more MAJOR client a month.

In 30 days they were getting not one, but 300. In 60 days they were getting about 500. And in the third month they were getting 1,500 new clients, at an added $80,000 a day in sales. But they didn’t like the marketing. The board of directors said the marketing “looked unprofessional”. So after about a year of this level of success they hired “a professional Manhattan marketing firm” and their results dropped to only 5 a month. But they got what they wanted, something that looked “professional” as they described it.

You see, when you believe in yourself you won’t downgrade what you do for a client who tells you it’s either unprofessional, or doesn’t believe that you can actually achieve those huge results. In 6 months they came back and begged me to get them back to where they were.

I’m usually entering discussions on LinkedIn and asking other coaches what they believe about challenging clients to REACH . . . REALLY REACH, and most believe that they shouldn’t challenge their clients, that they should just accept what the client wants. I always challenge my client to reach further and for him to understand that frequently the reason he doesn’t feel comfortable to reach further is that they feel it is extra work, takes more money, moves them outside of their comfort zone. But I challenge that belief with a simple question, “If you could have not only what you want, but several times that with less effort than you expend now, with less money than you spend now, and feel that it is a new and very comfortable outcome, would you be interested now?”

And they would!!!! So that’s our new goal, double or triple anything they even dared dream about without the expected barriers. And within a few days that client is at those results and raring to go for even bigger.

My definition of a REAL COACH is:

A coach takes clients to levels they couldn’t even imagine before we met.

So what is your vision of what you do for clients?

Some big guru once said that creating your own path to success requires lots of pain, expense, very slow growth, that results in more failures than success.

The fastest way to success is to follow those that have already done it, doing it the way they did it.

Yes, you can still be the coach you want to be, but the path to success is fast and you can still be the person and coach you want to be along that new path.

So, one of the things I ask my clients to do is

Define the model coach you’d like to become.

Look around you to see who’s the successful coach you’d like to model. In fact it doesn’t have to be one model. For instance I modeled:

    • Tony Robins — who challenges everyone to reach levels that they couldn’t have possibly achieved on their own. So I challenge everyone to reach further, much further.
    • Brian Tracy and Bob Proctor — for the style of coaching
    • Charlie Cook, Robert Middleton, Bob Bly– for their style of marketing
    • Bill Barren, Tony Robins — for their style of public presentation

And I’ve hired some of them to take me to that level the way they did.

  • Is there a coach you look up to, that you would like to find success similar to what they do?
